Toray Unveils High-Efficiency Membrane for Biopharmaceuticals

Toray Industries, Inc. has developed a high-efficiency separation membrane module that more than doubles filtration performance by reducing clogging. This innovation improves purification and increases biopharmaceutical yields to over 90%, helping lower production costs. Toray will supply prototypes for evaluation in gene therapy drug manufacturing, aiming for quick commercialization.

Biopharmaceutical production is costly, partly due to filtration inefficiencies. Toray’s new module combines an advanced depth filter and a hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane with anti-fouling technology. This design minimizes clogging, extends filtration time, and enhances purification, ensuring higher yields with lower ingredient loss.

With plans for mass production by March 2026, Toray aims to make gene therapy manufacturing more efficient. The company will showcase its innovation at nano tech 2025, reinforcing its commitment to advancing pharmaceutical technology.
