MTR Carbon Capture has been selected by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to install a Polaris™ membrane carbon capture system at its Taichung Zero-Waste Manufacturing Center. The system will be in place by the end of 2025, helping to reduce carbon emissions from TSMC’s solvent incineration facility. This marks an important step in adopting clean capture technology in Taiwan. Future larger-scale deployments are planned for additional TSMC facilities and waste-to-energy plants.

MTR’s Polaris membrane system stands out for its low environmental impact. Unlike traditional solvent-based carbon capture methods, Polaris does not produce chemical emissions, uses minimal water, and does not require heat or steam, keeping operating costs low. The system is also compact and modular, making it ideal for space-limited applications.
This project is a collaboration between MTR and CTCI, Taiwan’s largest engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company. MTR Carbon Capture, a division of Membrane Technology and Research Inc., has been a leader in membrane-based carbon capture for over 15 years, with support from the U.S. Department of Energy. This partnership with TSMC highlights a growing commitment to sustainable industrial operations. More Information.
